After over 35 years fooling around with trees, Fred founded Baraboo Woodworks as an extension of his passion for connecting people and nature. Fred has variously worked as a tree climber and consulting arborist, as a forest ecologist for The Nature Conservancy, as a forester for the Wisconsin DNR, and for over 15 years as a forestry consultant and contractor. He served his neighbors in Baraboo and surrounding communities as a Representative to the Wisconsin State Assembly from 2009 – 2014. Fred and his wife Kerry live in Madison, Wisconsin. When not in the shop he enjoys hunting, sailing and most things outdoors.
Josh Rice is a self-taught and forever learning woodworker from the Midwest. He has always had an interest in creating and building things using local and reclaimed materials. After years of working in photography and videography, Josh has transitioned his hobby and passion for woodworking into a career. In 2013 he opened The Local Shed, a woodshop and garden design business in Madison, WI.
Now, as Manager at Baraboo Woodworks, he works as part of the talented team building custom pieces and connecting customers with urban wood.
